There are a variety of things you could do to thicken your hair without resorting to the use of any chemicals. People who'd like to avoid using chemicals on their hair have natural options open to them. Here are three natural ways to boost hair growth and thicken thinning hair.

Harness the power of plants

Plants are nature's gift to us and some of them contain healing and soothing properties. They've also been discovered to have hair growing properties and can be used safely without the worry of any adverse side effects.

If your scalp is sore or inflamed, it can be soothed with a natural tonic made from chamomile. Chamomile has anti-inflammatory properties and helps heal the scalp. Another option would be to apply Aloe Vera directly to the scalp. Fresh Aloe Vera is sold in markets and health food stores. The thick fleshy leaves should be cut in half lengthways and scraped of the clear gel they contain. The gel can be blended to form a thick smooth paste and refrigerated for an hour before applying it to the scalp. The cool temperature adds to the soothing effect it'll have on an inflated scalp.

To boost hair growth, plants like Eclipta Alba which is called Bhringaraj in Ayurvedic Medicine have been used for centuries in India to stimulate hair growth. Bhringaraj is sold in both oil and powder forms in Europe and America. The oil is traditionally made by cooking the fresh Bhringaraj plant in either Sesame or Coconut oil. Sesame oil is cheaper than virgin coconut oil and is often used to mass produce Bhringaraj oil. If you prefer Coconut oil because of it's hair conditioning properties, then it might be worth having a go at making your own home made Bhringaraj oil .

Simply buy Bhringaraj powder and add two to three cured spoonfuls per cup of virgin coconut oil. Warm the mixture on a very low heat without allowing it to boil for a few minutes. Let the mixture cool before placing it in a blender and blending it. Line a funnel with cheesecloth and place it over the bottle or container your oil will be stored in. Pour the mixture through the funnel slowly and Voila! You've got your own home made Bhringaraj oil. Apply the mixture regularly and always the night before you plan on washing your hair so you do not clog your hair follicles.

Nutrients

Eating the right foods is essential to give your hair a chance to grow thick and healthy. Keep a diary of the foods you eat over the period of a week and at the end of the week, analyze what nutritional benefit each food has. You should ask yourself what proportion of what you eat is processed, how many fruits and vegetables you're currently eating and what vitamins and minerals the food you're currently eating contains. If you consume a high proportion of processed foods then your body is missing out on the important nutrients the foods lose during processing.

While processed foods may be convenient, they do not provide the nutrients your body needs. If cutting them out entirely is not possible, make a conscious effort to have several non processed meals a weak. Add foods like brown rice, whole grains, sweat potato, yams, and beans to your diet. Include dark leafy vegetables like spinach and kale when possible. They contain iron and b-vitamins which are required for hair growth. Following iron with Vitamin C increases the amount of iron absorbed so try drinking a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice after your lunch or dinner. Aim to eat least eat five portions of fruit and vegetables a day at the very minimum. Avoid bottled juices and smoothies if you can because they are processed.

Massage

Scalp massages are very important to boost circulation in the scalp and stimulate hair growth. Regular scalp massages are recommended and can often be performed using natural hair growing oils like Bhringaraj oil described above. Scalp massages can be done yourself or by someone else. The key is to use the right techniques and have regular massages.
