How to Repair Damaged Hair Fast at Home

Most of us know how to take basic care of our hair, but we also do a lot of damage to it on a regular basis. If you are painting your hair, blow drying it, brushing it while it is wet, swimming in a pool, or using a flat iron, then chances are that it is not nearly as healthy as it could be. Learning how to repair damaged hair is something that will help your hair look better in the short term, but it will also help it grow faster, longer, and remain thicker through your entire life.

What Causes Damage to Hair?

Your hair is primarily made up of protein and it is not quite as sturdy as you might think. Protein is easy to break down and that is why you will start to see “split ends” within days of getting your hair trimmed. The reason why you need to learn how to repair damaged hair is because whether you know it or not, you are doing damage to it on a daily basis.

  1. Shampooing – Most of us were taught that we should shampoo our hair every day in the shower, or at least every other day. However, this much shampooing actually strips your hair of the essential oils that it needs to fight off environmental damage. You can easily get by with only shampooing once or twice a week.
  2. Brushing – Brushing your hair might make it appear to be shiny, but if you are doing it while your hair is wet, then you are actually doing potentially a lot of damage to it. When your hair is wet, it is easily broken, so you should never use anything other than a wide-toothed comb.
  3. Styling – You probably already realize just what you are doing to your hair when you can hear it sizzling or smell it burning during styling. Any kind of heat styling is damaging to your hair, no matter how much product you put on it to protect it. The only safe way to let your hair dry is to gently towel it off and let it air dry. If you must use heat to style it, then try not to make a habit of it.
  4. Environment – Whether it is the poor diet that you are eating, the chemicals in your shampoo, or the toxins in the air that you breathe, the environment is doing all it can to harm your hair. Therefore, any step that you can take to diminish this damage, such as choosing to eat a chemical-free diet or using products on your hair and skin that are sulfate-free can really help.

How to Repair Damaged Hair

As with most health problems, it is a lot easier to avoid the damage than it is to cure it, so if you can start taking better care of your hair, you will notice results right away. However, there are things that you can do that will help repair some of the damage and enable healthier hair to grow back.

The most common method of how to repair damaged hair is to use a thick conditioner on a regular basis. Obviously, one should be used after washing your hair, but you should also start using an intensive conditioner at least once a week. You can make your own conditioner out of ingredients such as honey or avocado, or you can use an oil-based humectant that will help to repair your hair and prevent further damage. This method may take an hour or so out of your week, but it is an affordable and very easy way to ensure you have a healthy hair for a long time.

How to Stop Hair From Falling Out

When most people think about hair falling out, they naturally think of middle-aged men who are starting to lose their hair, but the truth is that we are all losing hair on a daily basis and if you are not paying attention, you could be losing a lot more than you thought. The average rate of hair loss for a woman or a man (who does not suffer from male pattern baldness) is around one hundred hairs per day, but there are many things that could have been doing that that could cause that number to skyrocket.

What Causes Hair to Fall Out?

The first aspect of learning how to stop hair from falling out is to identify the ways that you are actually pulling it out on your own. The majority of the hair that you are losing is not magically popping out of your head – it is being pulled out by something that you are doing to it.

  1. If you are a woman and you are tying your hair up with rubber bands, then that maybe account for another 20 – 50 hairs per day!
  2. If you are a swimmer and you wear a latex swim cap, then you are losing a few there, and if you are vigorously towel drying your hair after your shower, you will probably find even more hair on the floor or in your towel.
  3. Another mistake that a lot of people make is combing or brushing their hair while it is wet. While it makes sense to do so because it is easier to untangle it when it is wet, your hair is more prone to breakage and will easily be rolled out if you are pulling on it while it is wet. If you must comb your hair while it is wet, use only a comb with wide teeth.

Changes That Can Help You Retain More Hair

When you are looking for information online about how to stop hair from falling out, one thing that you will see mentioned time and time again is the necessity for a proper diet. Most of us do not have the time or the money to eat three square meals a day and ensure that we are getting all of our nutrients, so at the very least you should be taking a multi-vitamin every single day. There are even multi-vitamins that are especially designed for hair strength and growth.

There are a number of nutrients that are primarily responsible for hair growth and retention, including Vitamins B, D, E, and Biotin. When it comes to your diet, the simple addition of more lean protein will also help you grow stronger hair.

Take Care of Your Scalp

Because your scalp is the bed in which your hair grows, you should also pay some attention to its health, too. You will find that many experts who specialize in how to stop hair from falling out will recommend scalp massage on a regular basis in addition to using a scalp oil. While you might not like the idea of having an oily scalp, it can help to keep the hair follicles healthy and enhance hair growth.

Another way of taking care of your scalp is to give it a good massage, either with or without the oil. Having your head massaged feet good, especially when someone else is doing it, and because it initiates additional blood flow to the hair follicles, it helps your body to grow healthier, stronger hair. By making just a few of these changes to your lifestyle – nutrition, styling, and scalp care – you will see that learning how to stop hair from falling out is not so hard after all.

Hair Loss Treatment for Women

As a woman, one of the things that your mom probably did not tell you was that as you entered menopause, you might well start losing some of your hair. For those women with thick hair, they might not even notice it, but if you have naturally thin hair already, you might start seeing more of your scalp than you are comfortable with. Even though you might think that every hair loss treatment out on the market today is designed solely for men, there are several methods of hair loss treatment for women that will work for you.

Why Do You Lose Hair?

We all lose hair naturally as you probably know by looking at your clothing, your brush, or the floor of your shower or tub. But, there may be a time when you start to lose hair at a more rapid pace and making some swift changes to your life can help slow down the hair loss. The most common reason why women actually lose hair is because of the way they take care of it. Men wash their hair and let it dry, but many women spend an awful lot of time altering their hair with chemical products, using excessively hot styling equipment as well as products that are full of ingredients that just are not good for your body.

The other reason why a lot of women lose hair is that they do not realize that putting hair up in a ponytail, brushing it while it is wet, or braiding it can actually result in more hair loss. Basically, when you put a lot of pressure on your hair, it will ever give up and start falling out.

What Else Causes Hair Loss in Women?

Menopause is one of the major causes of losing hair in women, but so are prescription medications. Before you panic and think that you are going bald, you should talk to your doctor to determine just what kind of hair loss you are having and what the potential causes could be. It might be that you have an issue with your thyroid or that one of the medications that you are taking has a side effect of your losing hair.

What Can You Do?

Once you have identified whether your losing hair is due to environmental factors, health issues, or just the natural aging process, you can then start treating it. One mane loss treatment for women that has come around in recent years is the same kind of medication that is used for balding men. This is a good solution for women with excess mane loss, but in most cases it is not really necessary.

Simply by taking better care of your skin, your scalp, your hair, and your diet, you should find that you can stop the hair loss in its tracks. A hair loss treatment for women that is very popular is the use of natural oils on the scalp and the hair. By massaging your scalp with natural oils, you will help to rejuvenate hair growth and you will also bring more blood flow and therefore more oxygen to the follicles, which can aid in growth.

It is also important to keep in mind that hair growth is a delicate matter and it can be affected by such things as lack of sleep, too much stress, a poor diet, obesity, and even allergies. The best idea for most women is to try to eat the best possible diet and one that is free from chemicals and processed foods if possible. By using shampoos and styling products that are also chemical-free, you should notice that your hair loss begins to slow down.

Many women find that the answer to mane loss can be found in taking multi-vitamins, eating a better diet, getting a better night's sleep, and simply being more careful with their hair and scalp. However, if you do continue to lose excess amounts of hair, then you should certainly talk to a doctor.

How to Increase Hair Growth for African Americans

If your hair is black like African Americans, your head will most likely have more strands of hair than someone whose hair is naturally red. However, the rate of hair growth seems to vary from person to person but studies show that men generally have faster hair growth than women.

If you are an African American, you may have problems growing your mane long as the strands are coarse away from the fact that the natural hair growth is really slow about 12 centimeters per year. Here are some tips on how to increase hair growth while keeping it healthy and shiny.

  • Choose and Use the Right Hair Products – A major source of hair problem is the use of wrong hair products. There are millions of hair products ranging from shampoos to deep conditioners but you need to be realistic and know by heart that not all of them are good for the hair. The right hair products are the ones without harsh chemicals. They do not only damage your hair but also the environment. It is better to use herbal or organic shampoos. They are milder than commercial shampoos with sodium lauryl sulfate.
  • The Proper Way to Wash Hair – When you have the right hair products, you should also learn the proper way to wash your hair. You have to make sure that the way you wash your hair does not hurt it. Otherwise, weak hair roots will result to very slow hair growth. The trick is to use cold water. If you can not stand the cold, use lukewarm water and not one that burns your skin. You can also consider rinsing your warm water-washed hair with cold water to make it stronger and shinier. You should also wash your hair often (ie every day). Letting the hair dry out will not make it grow any faster. Water does not only clean your hair. It also hydrates it.
  • Moisturize and Nourish Your Hair – Water may hydrate your mane but it is not enough for your mane to get the nutrients it needs. You can put some natural oils to moisturize and nourish your mane. Coconut oil has been known for its great benefits for mane. Aloe Vera and Jojoba oil may also help.
  • Styling Your Hair – The way you style your mane can also affect its mane growth rate. A styling technique on how to increase mane growth is doing nothing and letting your hair flow down naturally. If you are uncomfortable with mane down, consider using clips to keep them off your face. Avoid blow dryer, iron, etc. While mane is reported to grow faster in humid and hot places, artificial heat applied directly to the mane will just inflict damage.

Ask an expert on how to increase hair growth and he can give you a lot of tips. To grow black and coarse mane faster, you should start by choosing the products that you use on your mane. You should also wash your mane properly (ie using cold water) and frequently. It will help if you can moisturize, nourish and let it down often.

Essential Oil Scalp Massage Treatments For Hair Loss

Aromatherapy is becoming well-known as a safe and effective natural hair loss remedy. It may sound like a far-fetched idea at first but it starts to make sense when one understands just how essential oils used in aromatherapy can stimulate new hair growth and improve the quality of existing hair. Many people do not care how it works-just as long as it does work! This article is for those who want know how essential oils work to help improve hair loss conditions.

The term “aromatherapy” is misleading. It implies that all the healing power comes from the aroma … as if smelling a certain scent can make one's hair grow. If that were the case, I too would be skeptical.

Aromatherapy encompasses the use of essential oils. These are highly concentrated, very potent plant oils. Each tiny drop contains all the molecules and all the vital energy of the entire plant. Each one is intricately balanced with hundreds of natural components that give them their unique therapeutic properties, making them impossible to reproduce synthetically.

When essential oils are applied to the scalp, they do not just lie there. Because their molecular structure is minute in size they are easily absorbed into the skin. Once absorbed they immediately go to work applying their therapeutic properties as needed.

Essential oils, being lipophillic (meaning they have an affinity for fat cells), allows them to penetrate and dissolve into the subcutaneous layer of the skin, increasing their absorption abilities even more. Another unique trait is that they are one of the only substances that can actually penetrate the cuticle layer and cortex of the hair to facilitate true repair. Their rapid absorption rate and compatibility to skin and hair make them an ideal agent for scalp and hair care.

One of the most well known facts about essential oils is their ability to increase circulation. Applying them to the scalp will draw more blood supply to the localized area. The follicles and roots of hair are nourished through blood supply. The essential oils themselves contain all the nutrients of the entire plant in a concentrated form. These nutrients are delivered directly to the hair.

Hair is often nutrient starved. The hair is the last to receive any nourishment taken in through digestion. It only receives what, if anything is left over after the rest of the vital organs have been nourished. Essential oil scalp massage treatments will help ensure the hair receives an ample supply of nutrients. This alone can make a dramatic difference to the growth and quality of hair.

The increased circulation and vasodilating effects of essential oils help to energize and rejuvenate the follicles. Hairs become thin due to follicle shrinkage. The opening and expanding of blood vessels help keep the follicles widened. This helps inhibit the effects of miniaturization. In their widened and enlivened state, hair follicles accept and utilize more of the nutrients they receive. Vasodilation has a stimulating effect on hair follicles, allowing the entire scalp to feel invigorated and energized. This stimulating effect encourages new hair growth.

Essential oils have a high level of oxygenating molecules. When used for scalp massage, they transport oxygen to the roots of hair and the cells within the scalp.

Certain essential oils have cellular regenerative properties. Since each strand of hair is formed from a clump of cells at the base of each follicle, the cellular regenerative properties of these oils can help keep these cells youthful, healthy and productive.

The foundation for healthy hair growth is a clean and healthy scalp. Essential oils have excellent solvent capabilities. They are able to dissolve excess sebum, dirt and product build-up that mixes with DHT and clogs hair follicles.

The antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties help rid the scalp of dandruff and other scalp disorders that can inhibit healthy hair growth. Essential oil scalp massage treatments help keep the scalp clean and stable, creating the best environment for healthy hair growth.

Essential oil scalp massage, used as a natural hair loss remedy can have a substantial effect on the health of one's hair. As long as a follicle is alive and undamaged, there is potential for improvement. As always, it is important to determine type and cause of hair loss and to treat the undering issue whenever possible.

If I Worry About My Hair Shedding, Will It Only Shed More?

I often hear from people who would avoid just about anything in order to make their hair shedding end more quickly. One contributing factor that I am often asked about is stress or worry.

I heard from a young woman who said: “I began shedding about two and a half months after going off of a medication that I took for years. embarrassed to admit this, but I have become obsessed by my hair. I count the number of hairs I shed. I research wigs and toppers online because I feel certain I will need one someday. a weekly average and then put it on a calendar to see if there is any improvement from week to week. can not find any information to substantiate this. Is it true? ”

If you spend any amount of time researching this topic, you will likely find that there is a lot of debt about it. A lot of specialists do not believe that worry causes or prolongs shedding. However, people who have actually gone through this would beg to differ.

There Are Conflicting Opinions Depending On Who You Ask:

To be quite honest, I used to count my hairs also. And I would often find that the more I worried, the worse the shedding got. Now, there are those who will tell you that once telogen effluvium unleashes, there is not much that can help, improve, or worsen it since it simply has to run its course. While I understand this intellectually, experience has shown me something else. When I was actively shedding, I would immediately react favorably to some shampoos and horribly to others. (The difference in the amount of hairs was significant with each use.) I would sometimes even react to certain vitamins or supplements. And I most certainly believe that I react negatively to extreme worry. If you think about it, worry and stress releases cortisol and this is not only a hormonal change (which can often affect hair or prolong shedding), but it is also a contributor to androgens which also negatively affects hair.

I also think it's noteworthy that my shedding improved once I had something come up in my life that forced me to focus my attention on something else. Now, I know that many will say it was mere time for my shedding to end. And they may well be right about that. But I will always believe that my worries made it worse.

Why It Just Does not Make Sense To Worry Regardless Of It Makes The Shedding Worse:

Telogen effluvium is bad enough without heaping on the worry. And honestly, when you are stressed, things are magnified and seem to be about ten times worse than they actually are. Try to distract yourself. See if you can go one day and then two or more without counting hairs. I broke myself of counting hairs this way and it was an awful relief to me. Resist the urge to keep hair journals or calendars. You do not need to do that. You know your progress by looking at what comes out when you wash your hair (but not counting it.) I took to going jogging or cleaning anytime I began to dwell on my hair. As my body looked stronger, leaner and better, I had something to take pride in and to distract me from my hair.

So to answer the question posed, you'll hear differences of opinion as to whether worry or stress can prolong shedding or even be an additional trigger. Many will tell you that it does not make much of a difference because the shedding will run its course either way.

While I understand that, it's my experience that worry did seem to make me shed more and for longer. And when life dictated that I turn my attention away from my hair, things dramatically dramatically with my life and with my hair.

Hair Pieces – 5 Misconceptions

There are many reasons why you may be losing your hair, from genetics to medical conditions such as the effect of endometriosis, chemotherapy, radiation, types of alopecia, or trichotillomania, the uncontrollable desire to pull your own hair out. Regardless of why you experience hair loss, hair pieces can be an effective way to cover up the bald spots and make you look as you naturally have a healthy head of hair

Not everyone wants to invest in extended wear or expensive hairpieces. Until now, there have not been many other options but with disposable hair systems entering the market, many consumers have questions and some misconceptions.

Misconception # 1
Many people think that if something is disposable, it must be easy for other people to spot. However most disposable pieces are made so that they look very natural and can be difficult to distinguish from real hair.

Misconception # 2
You can change your disposable hair piece every day

Just like extended hair hair piece, a disposable piece works for a while but just not as long as other kinds. Most disposable pieces can be worn for approximately one to two months before problems start to be evident and replacement necessary.

Misconception # 3
Disposable hair pieces will not stay in place

If the hair piece is made for extended wear there are different methods of adhesion to hold in place. Done properly, this is something you will not have to worry about.

Misconception # 4
Disposable hair pieces come from cheap material

Always ask how the hairpiece is made. Most disposable pieces are made out of an extremely fine lace material with knots and scalloped fronts for the same appearance as other hair pieces

Misconception # 5
This is a completely DIY project

While you can easily put on a disposable piece by yourself or with a friend, if you are new to attaching hair or are nervous about cutting the hair piece to fit your head, do not do it. Take the hairpiece to a local hair replacement specialist, it is always best to get a professionals assistance before you do something the first time yourself.

Consult a professional stylist to have your stylist to choose the best product for you. Also, ask your stylist about caring for your hairpiece; including how and when to wash the hair and when to get a replacement done for the most natural look possible.

If your hair loss is due to a medical condition, consult your doctor about your hair loss and whether this is the right choice for you.

Best Treatment For Telogen Effluvium

The rate of women experiencing telogen effluvium is rapidly increasing. Due to this fact, more and more women are looking for answers, hoping to find the best solution to stop the shedding and restore normal hair growth.

Telogen effluvium occurs when the hair growth cycle becomes disrupted, causing more hair than usual to retreat to the resting stage where it will then fall out approximately three months later. The positive aspect of telogen effluvium is that the follicles remain intact with the ability to produce new hair. This condition does not cause baldness. Although the fallen hairs are replaced with new growing hairs, there may be a dramatic decrease in volume if the condition persists. New growth may come in slowly. If shedding continues or increases, the new growth will never catch up with the loss. This can cause scalp hair to become very sparse if the problem is not resolved.

The hair growth cycle thrives on balance. It is very sensitive to any type of physical or emotional change, imbalance or disturbance. Any type of stressor can trigger this condition. A stressor is considered anything that causes the body to have to adjust.

Although there are many possible treatments for telogen effluvium, the main focus should be on re-establishing and maintaining equilibrium. The entire picture of the health and well-being of the person must be looked at. Every aspect of physical and emotional health must be considered. The best treatment involves a multi-pronged approach that leads to greater over-all health.

Determining the undering cause is not always easy. Often rather than one single cause, there are many contributing factors. Any improvements (such as better diet, exercise, relaxation, elimination of allergens, correcting nutritional deficiencies, maintaining proper weight, and natural treatments for any imbalances, etc) will lead the way for improvements in hair health. The body will not be bothered trying to correct a hair loss condition when other undesirable conditions exist.

Patience, determination and consistency are necessary. Many people try only one approach and give up after one or two months if they do not see a decrease in shedding. What they do not realize is that all the hairs that are already in the resting (telogen) stage will fall out no matter what. There is no way to save a telogen hair from falling out once it is programmed to do so. When starting a new treatment it is important to comprehend that all the hairs already in the telogen stage will fall out within the next three months regardless of the treatment. For this reason, people should not become discouraged in early treatment.

In addition to correcting any undercoming issues and improving overall health, natural healing methods such as massage, sauna, acupuncture, homeopathy, etc. can help restore balance and increase overall health and well-being. As the body becomes less disturbed and less congested with other concerns, more energy will be made available for healthy hair growth.

Essential oil scalp massage treatments, also referred to as aromatherapy can be used to stimulate new hair growth and improve quality of existing hair. Aromatherapy works on many different levels. While being used as a safe and effective natural hair loss remedy, essential oils also work with the body's own natural healing system to help relieve anxiety, depression and stress, restore balance and promote harmony within.

Essential oil scalp treatments can greatly enhance the health of hair, making them a very important component to a multi-pronged approach to hair loss disorders such as telogen effluvium.
